Job Description

The Sr. Manager, IT Governance is responsible for various methods and practices around provisioning IT into the business, improving the overall PPM maturity across the organization, and tracking and reporting the conformance to plans and expectations of IT-oriented initiatives. At McAfee, we will operate within a centralized governance board, however the Project Managers will sit within two distinct organizations within IT.  Is critical the Sr. Manager, IT Governance will be responsible for supporting and enabling the organization's projects, programs and structured work efforts. The Sr. Manager, IT Governance ensures that the work of the Governance team adds value, is relevant to the strategy of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities and Activities

  • Facilitates among the Project Management stakeholders and organizational leadership a consensus around the mission and vision of the IT Governance organization to foster a project-management-oriented culture and mindset
  • Engages senior leadership and business partners to define the IT Governance mission, goals and operating model, and releases this after senior management approval
  • Leads the identification and implementation of project management processes, methods, tools, guidelines and standards in order to establish a stable framework that supports all project teams and stakeholders to improve the probability of successful project delivery
  • Builds and maintains relationships with senior leadership and key Project Management stakeholders, and acts as a trusted advisor
  • Regularly reviews and evaluates opportunities to improve the project management best practices to achieve higher maturity in Project Management
  • Leads (where one is agreed and needed) the establishment of a project management community of practice to facilitate collaboration and best-practice sharing among project managers and key Project Management stakeholders
  • Assumes accountability for the governance and overall administration of the IT project portfolio
  • Ensures delivery of IT project and program management services such as project analysis, estimation, execution, and delivery
  • Communicates the timely status of the project and program portfolio to all stakeholders including facilitation of a monthly portfolio review with the CIO and senior IT leadership
  • Ensures project status, risks, and open issues are documented and all stakeholders are informed in a timely manner
  • Develops metrics and measurement techniques to track project delivery performance including variance analysis of plans to forecasts, and budget to forecasts.
  • Collaborates with broader McAfee Governance Council, business unit leaders, and service managers to develop and manage project and program budgeting, cost estimation approaches, resource allocation, and reallocations.
  • Coordinates with IT leadership to develop project and program resourcing strategies that ensures optimum support for both projects and day-to-day operations.
  • Coordinates with IT Finance and Project Managers to ensure financials are accurate and that project budgets are managed transparently and proactively.
  • Partners with IT leadership and McAfee's corporate planning team to plan and manage IT projects and programs throughout their entire development lifecycle from annual planning

Job Requirements

Education

Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience

Experience

  • Fifteen or more years of experience in IT and business/industry
  • Five to seven years of leadership responsibilities
  • Hands-on experience in project/portfolio resource capacity planning and allocation, reporting, prioritization, and budgeting
  • Demonstrated experience in leading diverse teams

Knowledge and Skills

  • PMP Certification is required
  • Experience with one or more project management methodologies
  • Program management skills and experience, plus significant knowledge of project planning tools with evidence of practical application (which is highly desirable)
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate the vision, and inspire and motivate the Project Management community
  • A distinctive blend of business, IT, financial and communication skills (This is a highly visible position with substantial impact.)
  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources may not be in direct control of this role
  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills
  • Strong business acumen, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and its business units
  • Deep understanding of current and emerging technologies and how other enterprises are employing them to drive digital business, and how they may be applied to the enterprise to drive digital business
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a strategic resource plan
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain IT concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts to the PMO staff
