Role Introduction:

We are seeking a Cloud Data Software Engineer to complement our growing Global Security Data Services team at McAfee Cork.

The Cloud Data Software Engineer is a varied role incorporating aspects of data analysis, data science, and hands-on software engineering.

We are looking for a data orientated individual with excellent engineering skills to help contribute to the development of our next generation service health and intelligence metrics platform.

Our team develops business critical systems that provide real-time threat information to McAfee customers. These systems are central to McAfee’s mission and have a direct impact on our ability to protect our customers from evolving threats.

As a Cloud Data Software Engineer a typical day might include following:

· You will be expected to contribute to the design of the platform which will enable service analytics and insights at massive scale for our global services.

  • You will work with engineering management, architects, and other engineers to define and expand on the requirements for the system.
  • You will be responsible for the analysis of massive datasets in terms of defining value-add service metrics.
  • You will be responsible for developing components of the system and maintaining existing components.
  • You will work with public cloud technologies and become expert/lead in the system under development.
  • You will research best practices for data analysis and implement requested reports to satisfy business requirements.
  • You will contribute to and define internal processes relevant to your role.
  • Research and experiment with emerging technologies and industry trends with a view to bringing added business value.
  • Building data pipelines to pull together information from different source systems; integrating, consolidating and cleansing data; and structuring it for use in individual analytics applications.
  • You will implement automated systems for data analysis and reporting as per specifications.
  • You will have ownership and responsibilities for the design of key components within the system.
  • You will work with internal stakeholders to turn reporting and analysis requirements relevant to the business into production level reports.
  • You will participate as part of your assigned team in technical discussions and whiteboard sessions.
  • You will report to the management team on overall progress for assigned responsibilities, communicating any issue or blockers that may impede progress.
  • Work in an agile, cross-functional team in a relaxed and modern environment, composed of both engineers and data scientists, taking responsibility for delivering predictive data products.

You possess core skills like: 

  • Undergraduate degree in an analytical or technical field (e.g. software engineering, mathematics)
  • 3-5 years’ experience of programming in a commercial environment using at least one relevant language e.g. Python, Go, Java, Scala.
  • Experience and/or interest in data science, data analysis or machine learning techniques and technologies.
  • Experience in data visualization techniques and creating easy to understand visualizations of complex data sets that non-technical stakeholders can understand.
  • Experience in cloud-based technologies and services is highly desirable. Particularly AWS based services – e.g. EC2, S3, DynamoDB, Lambda etc.
  • Experience in Big Data frameworks such as Spark, Hadoop, AWS Athena, H20.
  • Familiarity with NoSql databases and DB trade-offs eg. Elastic Search, DynamoDB, Cassandra, Redis.
  • Ability to work independently - designing, developing and deploying systems to deliver projects on time.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. You can clearly communicate your needs, goals, and can explain your decisions articulately.
  • Commitment to maintaining high software engineering standards
  • Commitment to continued learning and development
  • An active interest in software engineering and machine learning and keeping up with the latest trends in these areas
  • Previous experience building data analysis platforms
  • Experience of DevOps and CI/CD pipelines an advantage
  • Experience with data formats such as Parquet, Avro, ORC
  • Experience in streaming technologies such as Kinesis, Kafka, Flink
  • Experience with Data Pipeline technologies such as AWS Data Pipeline, Apache Beam, Airflow
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, particularly SCRUM
