Our Engineering site in Paderborn focuses on Web Security solutions as worldwide scalable cloud services for millions of users and on-premise solutions with virtual and hardware appliances for the Global 2000 customers. The security filters range from URL security, via advanced anti-malware technologies, remote browser isolation to Data Leakage Prevention and other advanced data security solutions that secure sensitive data of our customers.

Two of our Software Engineering Teams are looking to hire a working student “Werkstudent”) with up to 20 hours per week (working time can also be agreed to vary between less hours during the semester time and more hours during semester break).

About the role

Unified Cloud EdgeSoftware Engineering Team

  • As a working student within the Web Protection Engineering group, you will be working on development and testing of our Web Protection solution (for on-premise appliances and cloud service) and/or our Unified Cloud Edge solution.
  • Within the highly modular software environment you will work on components required for future version of the product and on tools and processes to improve the development process.
  • You will develop and conduct automated tests to verify the behavior of components and end-to-end systems in high load situations.
  • You will analyze telemetry data in order to build the knowledge of expected load in various deployment forms and use those data points in advanced simulations.
  • You will collaborate closely with your immediate colleagues, having frequent meetings to discuss and share work tasks.

Unified Cloud Edge Operations Team

  • You will work as part of the Operations team, participating in the daily operations process and identifying ways to optimize it
  • Analyze, understand and tune the existing operations system
  • You will extend test frameworks and staging environments and improve the workflows of the containerization solution
  • You will build out the telemetry and dashboards of the operations central
  • You will collaborate closely with your immediate colleagues, having frequent meetings to discuss and share work tasks.

About you

  • Be studying for a Bachelor (in at least 5. semester) or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, or similar technical discipline that includes significant computer programming content
  • You are enrolled at a German university and be available to work from our Paderborn office.
  • Have very good programming skills especially in C++ and Python.
  • Have an ability to solve problems in an efficient manner.
  • Have an interest and enthusiasm for working with new technologies
  • Possess excellent verbal and written English skills; German skills are an advantage
  • Have an ability to communicate ideas and describe your work using visual aids where appropriate
  • Have experience to work on Linux operating systems and development tools such as GitHub, Jira, Jenkins and TeamCity
  • Have experience with containerization specifically on Docker and orchestration systems like Ansible and Kubernetes
  • Have knowledge about Internet protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS, DNS, SSH, IPSec, about Web Proxy services and Web Applications such as HTML 5, CCS
  • Have knowledge/experience of at least one public cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI)
