At McAfee, innovation happens when talented people bring diverse skills and perspectives together to solve complex challenges. Today, we're highlighting Julia, a Software Engineer based in Cork, Ireland, whose work helps create seamless experiences for customers around the world. Combining expertise in linguistics and software development, Julia is helping drive innovation in localization through the power of AI.
Can you tell us a little bit about what you do and #LifeAtMcAfee?
"I joined McAfee in Ireland and dove headfirst into the fascinating world of localization. My role allows me to wear several hats, overseeing our MTPE (Machine Translation + Human Post-Editing) program, training AI models for brand consistency, and reviewing content to ensure a seamless experience for users across the globe.
One of the most inspiring moments in my time at McAfee has been seeing the impact of AI firsthand. Drawing on my background in both linguistics and software development, I played a key role in integrating AI into our localization process. This not only empowered our linguists but also delivered meaningful results—we significantly reduced time to market and improved consistency in how we communicate our brand across languages.
That experience reinforced my belief in the power of innovation and collaboration to drive positive change.
Throughout my journey at McAfee, the supportive and encouraging culture has been instrumental. My curiosity is actively nurtured, and I'm encouraged to explore new ideas and approaches. That environment has played an important role in my personal and professional growth, allowing me to contribute meaningfully to McAfee's mission while continuing to develop my skills."
What inspires you in your work?
"The opportunity to combine technology and language to create better experiences for customers is incredibly rewarding. I also find inspiration in the resilience and determination of the people I've encountered throughout my life and career. Their stories motivate me to advocate for creating opportunities where talented individuals can thrive, grow, and make an impact.
I believe that fostering inclusion starts with ensuring people have a voice and providing opportunities for individuals with the right skills and expertise to take on new challenges and leadership roles."
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
"Embrace new skills across the board and remember that communication is key. Being able to bridge different areas of expertise will truly set you apart, and strong communication skills are essential for building meaningful relationships and driving successful collaboration."
