My McAfee Journey
This year, I celebrated my 18th year at McAfee! But its March 25th 2007, that will be a moment etched in my memory forever — when I received the news that I would be joining McAfee as a Senior Software Dev Engineer. I embarked on this new journey where I supported web servers, CD tools and partner implementations, but I quickly developed an interest in resolving customer issues – something that really resonated with me.
The next chapters of my McAfee career unfolded in networking, systems, and DevOps, introducing me to new experiences, travels, and an insatiable thirst for knowledge.
After spending a year with consumer mobile engineering team, I had an opportunity to join the Consumer DevOps team. And I haven’t looked back since! I’ve continuously scaled on my knowledge and job roles to become a DevOps Manager. Being a customer advocate is not just a role; it's a calling that fuels my sense of accomplishment with every problem I solve. Each issue is unique, pushing me to think outside the box and approach resolutions from multiple angles.
The transition from an individual contributor to a DevOps manager brought me the joy of working with people, understanding emotions, and sharing knowledge. Seeing my team succeed and knowing that I play a part in shaping their careers energizes me like nothing else.

Getting outside my comfort zone
Career growth often beckons us to leave the comfort of familiarity and embrace the unknown. Transitioning to the cloud and mastering infrastructure as code was a daunting challenge, but I welcomed it with open arms. In anticipation, I immersed myself in learning cloud and DevOps concepts, earning an architect certification.
My perseverance paid off when I spearheaded a major migration project, solidifying my newfound expertise with real-world implementation. Embracing change and embracing the unknown are keys to personal and professional growth.
My advice for anyone looking to drive their career forward is…
First, take every opportunity as a challenge and don’t wait for something to come to you to begin learning! Instead, continuously learn and keep abreast with latest technologies and processes, and then look for opportunity to implement these. The rest will follow.
Second, be a customer advocate! Remember the wisdom of Gandhiji, considering the customer as the purpose for your business, rather than an interruption to work. By holding these principles close to heart, your career will soar to incredible heights.
