But for Chandeep, the most rewarding aspect of his long tenure isn't just the technological achievements – it's the growth and development of his team. A journey of innovation and growth
Chandeep's journey with McAfee began in 2004 in Waterloo, after moving from his birthplace in Amritsar, India (the city of the Golden Temple), and a stint in the Bay Area and Vancouver. Celebrating his 20th work anniversary, Chandeep has witnessed and contributed to significant evolution within the company.
Currently, as a Senior Engineering Manager, he leads the team responsible for developing our Windows PC App. This team is crucial in shaping how our customers interact with our solutions on the Windows platform, developing both the user interface and the underlying services.
"Many people might primarily know McAfee for antivirus, so a key part of our work is to highlight our comprehensive suite of features, including security for digital assets," Chandeep explains. "In today's world, protecting your personal and financial information digitally is paramount."
His team plays a critical role in bringing these security features to the forefront and ensuring they are intuitive and trustworthy for our users. "For example, if we detect a customer's information on the dark web, we need to carefully consider how we deliver that message. It's a significant responsibility to build that trust and clarity."
The heart of leadership: Fostering growth
For Chandeep, leadership is deeply intertwined with mentorship and fostering the growth of his team members. "One of the most rewarding aspects of my career is helping my team grow. I am a People Leader, so I coach, mentor, and empathize with each team member. I try to always be available for them. I truly learn from their unique skills and personalities. Our team is quite diverse, and it's always interesting to hear their perspectives and input."
He finds immense satisfaction in witnessing their development over time. "I love to see people evolve year over year and project after project. It's very heartwarming. Most of my team members have been with me for the past 10 years, so we're like a family." This long-standing connection speaks volumes about Chandeep's leadership style and the supportive environment he cultivates.
Life beyond the code
Outside of the dynamic world of digital security, Chandeep is passionate about maintaining an active lifestyle. "Outside of work, I love anything related to fitness — I enjoy lifting weights, running, hiking, biking — everything. I like to stay mobile and active."
His creative side also shines through his love for music. "I taught myself how to play some instruments, and I love singing."
However, Chandeep's biggest passion lies in exploring the world. "Probably my biggest passion is traveling. I consider myself very lucky to work at McAfee where we have a generous vacation policy, so I can continue traveling. This past year, I traveled to Alaska and Europe. My favorite place I’ve visited is Barcelona, Spain. It’s a very vibrant city. My wife wants us to retire there!"
